The vision of the KKH Children’s Blood and Cancer Centre is to advance the care and knowledge of childhood blood and cancer diseases in Singapore and the region. Applications are invited for this post within the VIVA-KKH Paediatric Brain and Solid Tumour Programme where the Fellow will take on a senior role in Programme’s preclinical therapeutics and personalized medicine platforms.

 

The Research Fellow will perform research in fields relevant to the VIVA-KKH Paediatric Brain and Solid Tumour Programme, particularly in the areas of molecular biology and bioinformatics, while also providing supervisory and technical support to research activities of the Programme.

 

Job Scope:

 

  • Work closely with the Principal Investigator to design, plan and execute research projects on paediatric cancer.
  • Provide day to day supervision of research projects including progress tracking in relation to deadlines.
  • Provide scientific and technical input to hypothesis generation, experimental design and execution, and result analysis.
  • Review and analysis of experimental results.
  • Development of analytics pipelines for molecular data and experimental methodology.
  • Provide administrative oversight in relation to IRB and IACUC applications and compliance with ethical, regulatory and legal requirements, liaise with other stakeholders and departments who will be supporting the research.
  • Provide assistance for writing of grant applications, report summaries, and journal manuscripts.
  • Presentation of research projects as required.
  • Provide staff training to new hires of the lab and to assist in training and supervision of attachment students.
  • Ensures smooth running of the laboratory by participation in the maintenance of lab equipment, inventory and supplies.
  • Timely acquisition of critical reagents and necessary documentation for research projects to proceed with minimal delays.
  • Participates in activities of the programme as required.
  • Performs any other related duties as assigned by the Principal Investigator.

 

Job Requirements:

 

  • PhD in a relevant life science or molecular biology field, especially human genetics, cancer bioinformatics, or related domains.
  • Relevant experience in a cancer biology/ life-science research setting and proficiency in the application of molecular and functional profiling techniques.
  • Competency and experience with analysis of sequencing data and biostatistical analyses.
  • Strong spoken and written language ability.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Highly motivated and passionate for research.
  • Able to work independently and as a team member in collaboration with colleagues in the immediate and wider environment.
