Respiratory Therapist
Respiratory Therapists (RTs) in KKH are part of a multi-disciplinary healthcare team providing respiratory care services to premature babies, neonatal, paediatric as well as adult patients in the hospital.
Your role includes provision of cardiorespiratory assessments and support to patients in delivery ward, operating theater, intensive care units (neonatal ICU, pediatric ICU, Women’s ICU), high dependency units and general wards in areas such as initiating and titration of both invasive and non-invasive respiratory support as well as cardiopulmonary resuscitation and airway procedures. Other duties include provision of education and training to other members of the healthcare team, students and patients as well as maintenance and troubleshooting of respiratory equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess, monitor, titrate and evaluate patients on invasive mechanical ventilators and non-invasive respiratory support such as CPAP, BIPAP and high flow nasal cannula
- Perform airway and respiratory care procedures such as blood gas sampling, suctioning, assisting with bronchoscopy, intubation, extubation, surfactant administration etc.
- Assist with intra-hospital and inter-hospital transport of patients on mechanical ventilation
- Formulate respiratory care plans and/or change in therapy based on patient assessment
- Participate in ward rounds and patient care plans discussion
- Routine maintenance and/or calibration of respiratory equipment
- Check, maintain and manage respiratory inventory stock
- Provision of interprofessional education as well as training and guidance to members of the healthcare team and students
- Participation and contribution towards quality improvement and research projects
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science in Respiratory Therapy
- Respiratory Therapist credential from country of training
- Basic computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Team player with good interpersonal and communication skills
