The Department of Cancer Survivorship and Wellness is conducting research projects to improve the health and well-being in cancer survivors. The candidate will perform a variety of research activities including but not limited to the following. 

 

Key Responsibilities:

 

1.Participant recruitment

  • Screen potential participants who are legally able to provide consent according to the inclusion/ exclusion criteria from the study protocol, and identify subjects who may be vulnerable in a special population.
  • Obtain informed consent from eligible participants.

 

2. Sample Processing and Logistics

  • Collection and processing of biological samples (e.g. Blood or Saliva) 
  • Maintain proper tracking of samples, updating of inventories and databases for respective studies
  • Process patients’ biological samples, including extraction of plasma or serum, as well as nuclei acid extraction from biological samples.
  • Coordinate the submission of biological samples to external partners as needed
  • Prepare samples to perform analysis with tools including ELISA, Multiplex, or LC/MS

 

3. Research project management

  • Ensure compliance with institutional, IRB and regulatory authority requirements for managing all types of clinical research studies.
  • Support research study processes, including submissions requirements by both IRB and/ or regulatory authorities, protocol requirements to assess potential challenges of the study, and rationale/ purpose of each essential document filed in the investigator site file.
  • Identify and escalate ethical, safety, or regulatory issues in the study conduct to study leadership for timely resolution.
  • Support lab and administrative duties in lab operations, e.g. procurement, equipment maintenance, inventories and lab maintenance etc
  • Support and maintain safety documentation and compliance of the lab
  • Lead and mentor junior staff and students in sample processing, experiments, data analysis, and database updates (Senior Research Officer)

 

4. Perform tasks and support all aspects of the research project

  • Perform literature reviews when required
  • Plan and execute experiments for the assigned studies 
  • Monitor and document accurate records of experimental data and observations
  • Evaluate and interpret collected data for oral presentations and scientific manuscripts 
  • Report and summarize experimental results and research findings in meetings

 

5. Perform other related duties

  • Other ad-hoc duties as assigned

 

Key Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s/Master of Science degree in related technical discipline (biology, cell biology, biological science, pharmaceutical sciences, biomedical science, biochemistry or molecular biology)
  • Experience with wet-lab handling of patient-derived samples 
  • Strong technical and wet lab skills
  • Team player with excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently
  • Responsible, diligent, possess initiative to complete tasks and projects assigned
  • Highly motivated to learn with a genuine interest in cancer research  
  • Able to undertake independent research progressively
