The Division of Supportive and Palliative Care (DSPC) seeks an affable individual to contribute to our growing work in health services research. Our health services research projects seek to improve clinical care for patients with cancer by developing, evaluating and implementing novel models of healthcare service delivery for palliative care.

 

The Research Coordinator will provide research support service for clinical research, in accordance to the applicable regulatory and protocol requirements. He/she will work closely with the Principal Investigator (PI) and members of the department to ensure smooth and efficient day-to-day logistics support for research studies and assists in study quality control activities such as internal monitoring, and prepare for auditing/ inspection. In addition, he/she will assess and manage patients for supportive and palliative care needs.

 

Key Duties:

 

1.Screen and recruit patients/ research participants

    • Able to identify and define potential participants who are legally able to provide consent according to the inclusion/ exclusion criteria from the study protocol, and subjects who may be vulnerable in a special population.

 

2. Conduct semi-structured interviews or surveys with patients/ research participants 

 

3. Participate in study procedures which may include care coordination, patient navigation and health coaching

    • Assess and manage patients for supportive and palliative care needs according to a clinical management protocol and under supervision of a senior member of the research/ clinical team.

 

4. Extract clinical data from medical records

5. Enter and manage study data

 

6. Attend to the administrative and logistic needs of research projects, including IRB submissions and report writing

    • Know about institutional, IRB and regulatory authority requirements for managing all types of clinical research studies.
    • Know about research study processes including submissions requirements by both IRB and/ or regulatory authorities, protocol requirements to assess potential challenges of the study, and rationale/ purpose of each essential document filed in the investigator site file.
    • Identify ethical issues in the study conduct and recruitment and report to leadership for resolution.

  • Motivated and able to work independently
