The Research Officer (RO) will be instrumental in bridging our collaboration with Institute of Molecular and Cellular Biology (IMCB). The role of the RO is to identify research streams, variables, data collection techniques and analysis methods that will be viable in translating research findings into clinical implementation. You will oversee the smooth running and track progress of the research study related activities and projects by working closely with the Principal Investigator and other members of the research team. You will monitor the project to make sure it follows the requirements and regulations, adhere to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPS), maintain data security, ensure quality control of experiments and comply to lab safety terms.

Some of the key responsibilities include: 

- Molecular and Genomic Biology Techniques: Knowledgeable in various molecular and genomic biology techniques required for the research activities which include traditional molecular and cellular technology (flowcytometry, coloning, western blot, qPCR etc.), animal experiments and NSG sample preparation.

- Data Interpretation & Storage: Familiar with entry and validation of research data, filtering of relevant information, analysis of experimental data to extract relevant findings and presentation of them in a clear manner. Maintain existing database and compliance to data storage and security.

- Lab Management: Daily stock take of various reagents and consumables in the lab. QC various lab equipment to ensure that they are running smoothly. 

- Lab Safety & Documentation: Comply to lab safety procedures and adhere to the SOPS required for conducting research activities in a safe manner and safe environment. Proper documentation of all processes and documentation of lab equipment in accordance with quality requirements.

- Monitoring & Optimizing Lab Processes: Identify streams of research activities where procedures can be further optimized and to design improved experimental protocols where necessary. Participate in lab meetings, presentations, manuscript preparations, journal clubs to facilitate the exchange of knowledge among the team.

- Mentoring: Lead and mentor junior staff in sample processing, experiments, data analysis, and database updates. Supervise and train research attachment interns and assist their queries.

- Administrative: Support the team with ad hoc activities which include taking meeting minutes, tracking the progress of various projects ongoing in the lab, liaising with stakeholder to establish research needs, managing workload of the lab and any other duties as assigned.

Requirements:
- Bachelor Degree or Diploma in Life Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, Molecular Biology, or an equivalent discipline.
- Prior experience in biomedical, healthcare, or academic research is preferred.
- Solid background in cellular and molecular biology techniques, including but not limited to flow cytometry, molecular cloning, Western blotting, qPCR, and mammalian cell culture.
- Experience with cryosectioning, paraffin sectioning, immunohistochemistry (IHC), H&E staining, blood sample processing, DNA/RNA extraction, and preparation of samples for next-generation sequencing is an advantage.
- Previous experience in handling laboratory animals is desirable.
- Strong laboratory skills with the ability to troubleshoot experiments, optimize protocols, and critically analyze experimental data.
- Demonstrated ability to independently design, execute, and manage research projects, including reviewing scientific literature, developing experimental strategies, and proposing solutions to scientific questions.
- Self-driven learner with a strong interest in staying current with scientific advances through literature review and applying new knowledge to research projects.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
- Good command of written and spoken English.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with clinicians, scientists, and multidisciplinary research teams.
- Highly motivated, intellectually curious, and passionate about scientific research.
- Independent, proactive, and capable of taking ownership of research projects with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, with the initiative to identify challenges, propose solutions, and continuously improve experimental approaches.
