Research Officer (Data)
The Laboratory of Surgical System & Service Innovation (3SI) is a multi-disciplinary laboratory that provides a platform for cutting-edge surgical health services research that informs healthcare systems, policies, and programs to provide high-value, patient centered care for patients and their families undergoing surgery.
We are looking for an enthusiastic, dynamic, meticulous, and responsible Senior / Research Officer to work closely with a team of experienced researchers and the clinical team in health system, services innovation, and novel surgical technologies research. You will be part of a holistic clinical and health services research team whose mission is to improve clinical outcomes for seriously ill patients in surgery.
Among others, your role will focus on supporting the development and maintenance of surgical registries and databases as well as the design, execution, and publication of high-impact surgical health services research. Research include those related to real-world surgical outcomes, patient-centred care, health equity, and cost-effectiveness.
Key Responsibilities
1. Database/Registry Development & Maintenance
- Design and create a data pipeline that meets the pre-specified needs and requirements of projects and maintains its proper function
2. Data Collection, Management, Analysis, Managing data quality
- Gathering data from various sources and organizing it for analysis
- Performing statistical and data analysis techniques to generate insights from the data
- Data quality control – Ensuring accuracy and completeness of data through data validation and cleaning
- Apply data science/machine learning methods to analyse large datasets
3. Performing exploratory data analysis
- Performing descriptive analysis to facilitate initial data investigation
- Summarising and presenting exploratory data analysis results to stakeholders
4. Designing and conducting Artificial Intelligence (AI) related projects
- Developing/Building a technical AI development plan based on the research question (include machine learning, natural language processing, generative AI, deep learning models)
5. Presentations & Data Visualization
- Analysis Report Generation: Producing reports and presentations to communicate findings and recommendations
- Data Visualization: Creating visual representations of data to effectively communicate insights
- Preparation of presentation slides and posters for submission to local and international conferences
Key Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, and Information Systems, Soft Engineering, biomedical science, statistics or any related computational disciplines or equivalent.
- Advanced proficiency in Python, R, Java code writing
- Hands-on experience with database design and development
- Extensive knowledge of machine learning frameworks, libraries, data structures, data modelling, and software architecture.
- In-depth knowledge of mathematics, statistics, and algorithms.
- Demonstrated technical expertise with data models, data mining, and segmentation techniques
- Familiarity with healthcare database management systems and processes as well as healthcare data governance policies and regulation will be an advantage.
- Familiarity of generative AI methodologies
- An analytical problem solver: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and ability to work with incomplete or imperfect data.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to explain the work in plain language.
- An effective team player: to collaborate with members of inter-professional functions, effectively contribute and be adaptive within multidisciplinary teams
