Singapore General Hospital (SGH) is the first and largest acute tertiary care hospital in Singapore with multiple specialized services including haematology and transplant medicine.

 

The Department of Microbiology in the Singapore General Hospital is the largest microbiology department in Singapore, providing diagnostic services in bacteriology, virology, mycobacteriology, mycology, parasitology using a variety of techniques, including molecular diagnostics.

 

The Central Tuberculosis Laboratory in the Department of Microbiology processes over 80,000 specimens a year. It is a spacious, purpose built BSL3/BSL2+ facility that accounts for 80% of the national TB workload. We are transitioning to a whole genome sequencing approach to TB diagnosis. In addition, the lab performs TB immunology, and identification and susceptibility testing of non-tuberculous Mycobacteria.

 

We seek a suitably qualified pathologist to join us and to undertake the following roles:  

 

  • Help lead a team of 30 staff and 2 consultants (including this post)
  • Undertake responsibilities in the areas of diagnostic mycobacteriology, education (including mentoring junior doctors), research and administration.

 

Requirements

  • Basic Medical Degree and FRCPath or FRCPA in Microbiology (or equivalent) are required.
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience in a TB Laboratory is preferred.
  • Experience with NGS/WGS would be an advantage.
  • Must be able to obtain specialist accreditation and registration in Singapore.
