Medical Technologist, Singapore Cord Blood Bank (2-years contract)

 

Join Singapore Cord Blood Bank (SCBB), where we provide placental cord blood units of high safety and quality through internationally accredited techniques of collection, processing, banking and disposition to support life-saving cord blood transplantations globally and vital research in Singapore.

We are seeking a Medical Technologist to handle the lifecycle of cord blood units, from initial processing and cryopreservation through to distribution for clinical transplantation, new medical treatments, and research purposes. You will ensure all procedures meet stringent laboratory standards whilst maintaining the highest quality of cord blood products.

 

What You Will Do:

You will receive, process, test, and cryopreserve cord blood units whilst ensuring proper labelling and disposition of all samples in compliance with SCBB's Standard Operating Procedures. Your responsibilities also include entering data into the Laboratory Information System, documenting and reviewing laboratory test results, and performing searches and distribution of cord blood units for both clinical use and research applications. You will maintain and monitor laboratory equipment including quality control activities, assist with equipment troubleshooting, and compile maintenance records into databases. Additionally, you will contribute to laboratory advancement by assisting in the validation of new processes, tests, and equipment whilst preparing Standard Operating Procedures that align with current licensing, accreditation and regulatory requirements. You will participate in root cause analysis for incidents or deviations and implement cybersecurity best practices and sustainable laboratory practices in daily operations.

 

Job Requirements:

  • Degree in Life Science with at least 2 years of related work experience
  • Prior experience in cord blood or blood bank operations will be advantageous
  • Experience working in a FACT or CAP accredited lab will be advantageous
  • Experience with blood component separation, flow cytometry, cryopreservation techniques, and liquid nitrogen handling will be advantageous
  • Experience with laboratory information management systems (LIMS) and data analysis software
  • Strong teamwork skills with ability to take ownership of tasks
  • Proactive and meticulous with strong ability to learn quickly
  • Ability to multitask and manage tasks within established timelines
  • Flexibility to work shifts, weekends and public holidays as scheduled
