SERI researchers continuously produce world-class results that have received widespread international recognition. In addition to generating an impressive publication track record and a growing reputation, the outcomes of this research include multiple commercially promising technologies which can be brought to patients either via licensing to existing companies or via newly created spin-offs. The technologies developed are in a diverse range of domains, including therapeutics, devices, diagnostics and software.

The SERI/SNEC TD&C programme has been set up to proactively pursue the commercialization of SERI’s research outcomes and engagement of industrial partners. The TD&C office serves as a one-stop support entity for all technology transfer and technology development activities, with the TD&C team aiming to drive the development of budding technologies from SERI’s research projects, push the commercial development of current research collaborations with industry and actively promote such partnerships with new partners. The team forms a channel through which inquiries regarding potential external collaborations flow in and reach SERI research staff, as well as being central to facilitating, formalizing and developing these research activities from a commercial point of view. It is also involved in external communications towards key stakeholders with regard to commercialization, aiming to attract further industry and academic partners to form collaborations with SERI.

Manager, Technology Development and Commercialization will be tasked to assist the Director, Technology Development & Commercialization in setting the ground and facilitating the translation of therapeutics and diagnostics technologies developed within SERI into commercial initiatives.

His/ her areas of responsibility will encompass the length and breadth of the following areas:

  • Assesses commercial and financial prospects of new technologies, primarily in therapeutics, and diagnostics.
  • Liaises with the SingHealth IP office on IP evaluation of these technologies.
  • Assesses commercial and financial prospects of new collaborative, business and market opportunities for new biomedical technologies and new services both in SERI and SNEC.
  • Follows-up on all partnership activity including the tracking, documentation and status reporting of all collaborations along the TD&C development pipeline.
  • Follows-up and actively monitors the technology development and patent application status for the different research projects ongoing at SERI and communicates this to key SERI personnel.
  • Interacts with existing institutional and corporate contacts, facilitates communication, keeps tracks of milestones and identifies scope for enhancing these relationships.
  • Responsible for the preparation of TD&C-focused presentation and marketing materials for professional meetings, seminars and conferences.
  • Assists in preparation of grant applications
  • Any other businesses or roles to be directed by Director, TD&C

 

Education/Experience requirements:

  • Requires at least a Masters in life science (a focus on biomedical preferred) with a minimum of 4 years’ business development or commercialization experience in a pharmaceutical or biotech environment.
  • Knowledge of drug and diagnostics development with, prior experience in drug development from early stage discovery to  phase 1 trials is required.
  • Prior experience in dealing with corporate partners and in negotiating and completing agreements is required.
  • Strong project management experience is required.
  • A thorough understanding of the processes of due diligence and alliance integration with a scientific and business acumen is desirable.
  • Knowledge of local regulatory processes in both biotech and med tech industry is a bonus
